Every job below is one we do ourselves across Fitchburg.
We build new decks from the footings up, sized and framed for whatever you're planning to put on them, whether that's a grill station or a hot tub that needs extra joists. Footings go below Wisconsin's frost line so the structure doesn't heave when the ground freezes and thaws.
Soft boards, wobbly railings, and stairs that have started to pull away from the frame all fall under repair work. We pull up decking to check the joists and ledger board before patching anything on the surface, because a new board over a rotten frame doesn't hold.
Stain and sealant keep water out of the wood grain, and in this climate that matters more than the color you pick. We strip old, peeling finish first instead of just adding another coat on top of it, and we time the job for weather that actually lets the sealant cure.
Multi-level decks, built-in benches, pergolas, whatever shape your yard actually calls for instead of a standard rectangle. We draw it out and price it before any lumber gets ordered.
Composite boards don't rot, but they still require the right joist spacing underneath, usually tighter than standard lumber, or they'll sag between supports. We install to the manufacturer's spec so the warranty on the boards actually holds up.
Loose posts, wobbly rails, and baluster spacing that's grown wider than four inches over the years are all things we fix or replace. Current code calls for a 36 to 42 inch guardrail height depending on the deck's use, and we build to that even on repair jobs.
If the frame underneath is solid but the decking on top is worn, cupped, or splintering, we can replace just the boards instead of rebuilding the whole structure. It costs less than a full teardown and still gets you a deck that looks and feels new.
Old decks come down clean, with the lumber and fasteners hauled off site, not left in a pile in your yard. This is usually the first step before a rebuild, but we'll do it as a standalone job too.
Sloped yards usually work better with more than one deck level to follow the grade instead of fighting it. We frame the level changes with proper stringers and landings so the stairs between levels meet code, not just look fine.
A screened porch shares a lot of the same framing as a deck, just with a roof and screen panels added, and it's a natural add-on if you're already building or replacing a deck. We frame it to carry the extra roof load, which a standard deck frame isn't built for.
Four steps, and no surprises in any of them.
You tell us what you want doing, we look at what is actually there, and we ask the awkward questions early.
In writing, itemised, free. If something might add cost later we flag it now rather than at the end.
Same crew throughout. We cover your floors, keep the dust down and tidy up before we leave each day.
You point out anything you are not happy with and we fix it before the invoice, not after.
